Looking for something different to do this Friday night? Stop by Michels Ballroom at 7:00pm and check out Rhythm & Wishes for a night packed full of music and fun! The event will be hosted by one of St. Norbert College’s newest student organizations, Wishmakers on Campus, and will include a cash bar, music from SNC students and alumni, a program featuring local Wish Kids, and exciting raffle prizes. Admission is $10 and all proceeds will go to help grant Katie’s wish to go to the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort in the Bahamas. Katie is a five year old girl from Green Bay who suffers from rhabdomyosarcoma, a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in muscle tissue.
After interning at Make-a-Wish Wisconsin, senior Kelsey Rice decided to bring her work back to school with her to make Wishmakers on Campus a recognized student organization. Although this is the organization’s first semester on campus, they’re starting out strong with a goal to raise $8,000 by the end of their Rhythm & Wishes event. With $7,275 raised at the time of this article’s publication, Wishmakers is incredibly close to reaching the mark they have set for themselves! Their hope is that by granting Katie her wish they will be able to bring her the hope, joy, and strength she needs to overcome her rhabdomyosarcoma. You can make donations in advance by visiting St. Norbert College’s Make-A-Wish donation page here.
Kelsey expressed that she enjoys that the active members of Wishmakers are “on the front line of planning the event” and she feels they are truly “bringing communio to life” through their work. She goes to say, “I’m really excited to see the turnout. Being a brand new organization, we’ve worked really hard in a short amount of time to put on this event. The members have put so much into it! Ultimately we just want to be able to grant Katie’s wish to go to the Bahamas, so raising enough money to do that would be amazing.”
For more information about Rhythm & Wishes you can visit the event page on Facebook. Even more information (including parking directions for those off campus) can also be found on the Wishmakers on Campus website.
As a new student organization, Wishmakers on Campus is actively looking for new members who are passionate about helping others and making a difference in the community.
